Our Story

We are Damgeuda, a husband and wife team preparing unique Korean food. We have been working in restaurants each for at least ten years and have been doing pop-ups as Damgeuda for the past two years.  Yu Gin was born in Seoul and attended Johnson and Wales in Providence. Yu Gin has worked in several restaurants in Korea, Denmark and Massachusetts. Walter has worked in many restaurants in Massachusetts as well as some Michelin starred restaurants in San Francisco, Denmark and Korea. We always envisioned a restaurant together and are thrilled to get the opportunity to open in Haverhill.

We will have a small menu with items that change with the seasons. In part to support local farms and also in an effort to provide the best tasting food we can. We will try reduce waste as much as possible by utilizing every part of the ingredients. Less waste is better for the planet and honors all the time and effort that goes into growing food. It also helps fuel creativity to provide a variety of flavors otherwise unattainable. We make as many things ourselves as possible whether that be soy sauce or bread. To add natural savoriness to our food and as a labor of love. We want make people we are able to accommodate most dietary restrictions and allergies.

Damgeuda in Korean is the first step in making kimchi, Korean soy sauce, and many other staple Korean foods. Making kimchi takes humble often overlooked ingredients and transforms them into something truly delicious. In this sprit, we choose the name to represent the same love we put into making our food. We hope with your support to provide Haverhill with the same care and attention.
